About this checklist

A packing list is only useful if it matches the trip. A week in Istanbul in March, a beach holiday in Langkawi, a conference in London, Umrah in Ramadan and a move to Toronto for a master’s need different bags. This list adapts to the trip type and the weather at the destination, keeps the documents and carry-on sections that every international trip from Pakistan needs, and remembers what you have ticked so you can reuse it next time.

How to use it

  1. Choose the trip type (city, beach, business, Umrah/Hajj, moving to study) and the climate there (warm, mild, cold). Items that do not apply are hidden.
  2. Tick as you pack. Ticks are saved in this browser; use Clear ticks to start the next trip.
  3. Print the list or save it as a PDF; the printed version shows ticked and unticked boxes.

What is a rule and what is a suggestion

Two sections carry real rules. Documents & money: passport with visa and CNIC are required; the polio certificate is a Pakistani departure requirement (tagged verify because the rule can change). Carry-on: power banks and spare lithium batteries must go in hand luggage, not checked bags, under aviation rules, and liquids in hand luggage are limited to containers of 100 ml in a clear bag at most airports. Everything in the clothes, toiletries and extras sections is a suggestion, filtered by trip type and climate.

Example

Someone from Karachi going for Umrah in winter chooses Umrah / Hajj and Mild. The list shows the Umrah visa, Nusuk permit and hotel vouchers; the carry-on basics; ihram (two sets), abaya and scarves, unscented soap, comfortable sandals and a money belt; a light jacket for Madinah evenings; a prayer mat and a small shoe bag for the Haram; and the universal documents and medicines. The beach and business items never appear.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put a power bank in checked luggage?

No. Power banks and spare lithium batteries must travel in hand luggage; airlines also cap the capacity (commonly 100 Wh without approval, up to 160 Wh with airline approval). Check your airline’s dangerous-goods page.

What is the liquids rule?

At most airports, liquids, gels and aerosols in hand luggage must be in containers of 100 ml or less, all fitting in one resealable clear bag of about one litre. Some airports with new scanners have relaxed this, but the 100 ml rule still applies on most routes from Pakistan.

Do I need unscented toiletries for Umrah?

Perfume and scented products are not used while in the state of ihram, so pack unscented soap and toiletries for those days. Normal toiletries are fine outside ihram.

Should I carry copies of my documents?

Yes: a photocopy set kept separately from the originals and a scan in cloud storage or email. If a passport is lost abroad, the copies speed up the emergency travel document at the Pakistani mission.

Limitations and sources

Clothing and toiletry items are suggestions by trip type and climate; airline baggage allowances and country import rules (medicines, food) are not covered and should be checked with the airline and destination. Ticks are stored in this browser only.
