Hajj & Umrah budget calculator
Two ways to budget: enter an operator’s package price and add what it leaves out, or build the trip yourself with nights in Makkah and Madinah priced separately. All figures are yours; nothing is guessed.
What this tool does
Pilgrims from Pakistan budget for Umrah and Hajj in one of two ways: a package from a licensed operator, or a self-arranged trip with flights, hotels and transport booked separately. This calculator handles both. In package mode you enter the operator’s per-person price and then the things packages usually leave out; in self-arranged mode you price the trip part by part, with nights in Makkah and Madinah entered separately because hotel rates differ so much between the two cities and by distance from the Haram.
How to use it
- Set the number of pilgrims and the nights in Makkah and in Madinah.
- Choose I have a package price or I am arranging it myself.
- Package: enter the per-person package price from the operator’s quote, then a per-person figure for what it excludes (ask the operator: visa, insurance, some transport, food are the usual exclusions).
- Self-arranged: enter the return fare, visa and processing, travel insurance (price it on the cost calculator with Saudi Arabia as the destination), ground transport for the group, and the per-night hotel rates for Makkah and Madinah.
- Daily & extras apply to both modes: food per person per day, local taxis per day, Qurbani/dam per person if applicable, a once-only line for Zamzam, gifts and shopping, and other.
- Press Calculate budget for the total, per pilgrim and per day, with a 10% buffer.
How the result is worked out
Per-person lines are multiplied by pilgrims; Makkah hotel by Makkah nights; Madinah hotel by Madinah nights; food by pilgrims × days; local travel by days; group transport, gifts and other once. Days are Makkah nights + Madinah nights + 1. Lines that belong to the other mode are ignored, so switching between package and self-arranged does not double-count.
Example
A couple from Faisalabad compares an operator’s Umrah package with doing it themselves for 7 nights in Makkah and 4 in Madinah. In package mode they enter the quoted price per person and a per-person sum for the visa and insurance the operator excludes, plus food, taxis and gifts. Switching to self-arranged, they enter the Saudia fare, the Umrah visa cost through their agent, two insurance prices from the cost calculator, a Haramain train and bus budget for the group, and the nightly rates of the Makkah hotel (near the Haram) and the Madinah hotel. The two totals and per-pilgrim figures sit side by side so the decision is about rupees, not guesswork.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need travel insurance for Umrah?
Insurance is bundled into some Saudi visa types and operators often include it, but many pilgrims buy a separate policy from Pakistan for medical cover in USD and for the journey. Saudi Arabia is priced in the Rest of World zone on the cost calculator. Hajj pilgrims on the government scheme should check what the scheme includes.
Why are Makkah and Madinah nights separate?
Because the hotel rate is the biggest variable in a self-arranged trip and it is different in each city. A hotel steps from the Haram in Makkah costs several times one in Aziziyah; Madinah rates are generally lower. Entering the two rates and the two night counts keeps the estimate honest.
What does a package usually exclude?
Ask the operator for the list in writing. Food, Qurbani or dam, Ziyarat tours, laundry, extra baggage, local taxis, Zamzam and gifts are the usual gaps; some packages also exclude insurance and the visa fee. Enter their total per person in the “Not included in the package” line.
Is the Hajj cost the same as Umrah?
No; Hajj involves the days in Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah with tents and transport set by the authorities, and government and private Hajj schemes publish their own package prices each year. Use package mode with the scheme’s price and add what it excludes.
Limitations and sources
No prices are built in: not fares, hotels, visa costs or package rates, all of which change by season. The calculator does not model Hajj-specific logistics (Mina camps, Nusuk fees) beyond what you enter. Inputs are saved in this browser only.
